Very happy to have finished the 12 x12 '12 draft for May. So excited about this one, not like last month's that I struggled with. We'll be half way there in June! Can't believe it!
When Sendak's book, In The Night Kitchenwas published our small town library, offended by the nudity, decided to ban all of his books. Since my girlfriend's mother was one of the librarians, my collection of Sendak's books began....with the discards.
Two of my favorites are: Some Swell Pup - 1976 and The Griffin and the Minor Canon, by Frank R. Stockton - 1963. Some Swell Pup is delightful.. It begins like a graphic novel with segmented pictures and speech bubbles, but also includes spreads and single pages. Love his silly sense of humor about getting a dog. In The Griffin and The Minor Cannon, he has illustrated one of my favorite mythological creatures with his pen and cross hatching style, reveling much emotion in his drawings.

Keep A Poem In Your Pocket
By Beatrice Schenk de Regniers

Keep a poem in your pocket
And a picture in your head
And you’ll never feel lonely
At night when you’re in bed.

The little poem will sing to you
The little picture bring to you
A dozen dreams to dance to you
At night when you’re in bed.

So - -
Keep a picture in your pocket
And a poem in your head
And you’ll never feel lonely
At night when you’re in bed.

My holiday book of choice for this year

Started draft for April 12x12x12 but its not rolling along so might give it more time and go on to another idea from my journal. Still really excited about the March draft and want to keep rewriting. However, must focus and finish one thing at a time, something I'm not used to doing.
Happy Easter, Happy Spring!!
There are many great Easter/Spring/Bunnie PBs out this year... Anita Lobel is a favorite of mine.. I have many of her early books.
